Some one asked a question --- Why is dreamweaver MX so great?
Let me tell you all about the new advanced Dreamweaver MX
MX takes the power of Homesite, Dreamweaver 4 and Coldfusion Studio and wraps it into one nice feature.
Here are some of the features --
1. It gives you the options of displays (studio, standard dreamweaver, and homesite).
2. Syntax highlighting for many scripting languages.
3. Those famliar with dreamweaver's view of html (easy edit). MX comes with this. WHich I find wonderful. It allows you to create your html eliments with ease and see how they will look.
4. FTP. you can create the files then FTP right within MX or you can work directly off the server (every time you hit save it up loads it right away).
5. It has a test FTP site. I have not used this feature, but what it allows you to do is create a link and run the actual results right within MX. That way you can see how your results will be displayed without having to do a lot of uploading and retesting of different designs.
6. code completion. Even if you are working in a php file it does auto completion for HTML.
There are many other things that this program has that I love. Those that like dreamweaver 4 will love MX.

Personally I use MX for "designing" html.
I use textpad(.com) for php. it's the best programmers notepad I've used yet! It has a lot of syntax highlighting files too. Give it a go!
As far as MX's testing server things, I agree the ftp to site is nifty, but I never use it, and I edit my files directly from the test server htdocs so I'm fine for that...

I've always found dramweaver best for prototyping HTML layouts. Homesite is a wonderful html editor, although in both cases I think they have complicated the interfaces with MX.
the o'reilly reference they have put in is more trouble than its worth.
